Safe Start to Riding

Is my child ready for lessons?

It really does depend on the individual child. Attention span, desire to learn, and physical abilities make a big difference in a child's riding experience.  Mature 5-year-olds/kindergarteners are welcome. Mature in this instance means willing to follow direction,  a developing attention span, and a drive to learn all about horses.  This also applies to twelve-year-olds!

Horseback riding is more physically demanding than a non-rider might think, so if your child is unused to physical activity, he or she may find certain exercises demanding.  Determination and desire play a big part in success in riding lessons.
